Being a Fawad khan fan ,I knew , I had to watch this movie ! But wait...there is not going to be a single word in this post about Fawad .....and this is not a formal review too ! ...just a few stray thoughts after watching the movie....
I love watching dramas about relationships. But I think ,it is difficult to capture subtle shades of relationships in a movie.In just 2 1/2 hours ,you have to develop the characters ,build the relationships , let the story unfold and evolve... and take it to a satisfactory conclusion ....I think this is easier in a novel or a T.V.series or even in a short story ....there is enough time for development ... ......But I think this movie has been successful in doing that.
The movie is the story of a dysfunctional family ....both the sons have moved away from the parents , mentally and physically.
Marriage of the parents is going through a rough patch , constant bickering over finances , lack of communication and other things, has pushed the husband into arms of another woman...
Elder brother , a successful author, always carrying the burden of being a perfect son ... struggling with his second book .... living a lie...because he is scared to come out....of the perfect box the world created for him .
Younger son is going through an endless struggle to find out who he is ....to prove himself...to reach the level of perfection that his brother has achieved...
And then we have the grandfather..Dadu...a nonagenarian...jovial , enjoying life , constantly playing pranks on his family...( His favourite game is dying on the breakfast table !)...
Love is always there ...but is hidden under layers of misunderstandings and miscommunications there is a reluctance to confront and speak out , a reluctance to rectify the mistakes of the past....
It is the grandfather's wish that the whole family should be brought together at least once , so that a perfect photograph could be taken....'Kapoor and sons..since 1921'
A simple story..yet not a moment of dullness....the hero of the story is love and relationships...
A sudden jolt - an irreparable loss - revelations-confessions-slowly heals the years of damage....
Family matters....love prevails....
And yes....an almost perfect photograph in the end too....
Definitely worth a watch !
